Cable Colour Key allows users to assign and manage cable colours in VCV Rack.
To change the colour of a cable, use one of the hotkeys to select a colour while dragging a cable in VCV Rack. By default the hotkeys are set to the 1-9 keys on your keyboard. Note that these hotkeys will not work if a cable is not currently selected, unless the "Key mappings always active" option is enabled.
When a cable is released, Cable Colour Key will indicate the colour that will be assigned to the next cable that is created. You can choose to either latch to the last selected colour, or to cycle to the next colour in the mappings by either toggling the "Latch" option in Cable Colour Key's context menu, or by using the hotkey to the left of your keyboard's "1" key (on US keyboards this is the "~" key).
To edit an existing colour or hotkey, right-click on the cable that you want to edit on Cable Colour Key's panel, and then edit the colour or hotkey from the context menu. Alternatively, left-click and hold on any cable on Cable Colour Key's front panel and then press a key on your keyboard to assign a new hotkey.
Cables can quickly be reordered on Cable Colour Key's front panel by left-clicking any cable and dragging it to the desired position.
Cable Colour Key's key and colour mappings are saved globally, but you can also load and save these to and from presets, as well as to and from patches. The "Load/save colours to/from patches/presets", and "Load/save keys to/from patches/presets" option in the module's context menu needs to be enabled for this to occur.
Settings:
Latch: This toggles the latch state. When enabled, the currently selected colour will be assigned to the next cable created. When disabled, the colour will cycle after creating a cable.
Use ` key to toggle latch mode: When enabled, the ` hotkey can be used to toggle the latch mode state.
Indicate selected colour: When enabled, the currently selected colour will be indicated on the module panel.
Display key mappings: When enabled, the key mappings will be displayed beside the corresponding colour on the module panel.
Port hover mode: When enabled, hovering the mouse cursor over a port (input or output) and then pressing a mapped hotkey will cause all cables connected to that port to change to the corresponding colour.
Key mappings always active: When enabled, hotkeys can be used at any time, not only when dragging a cable.
Load/save colours to/from patches/presets: When enabled, Cable Colour Key reads and writes colours to and from patches and presets, as well as saving them globally.
Load/save keys to/from patches/presets: When enabled, Cable Colour Key reads and writes key mappings to and from patches and presets, as well as saving them globally.
Key mappings: This contains a submenu of the currently mapped keys and colours. A subsequent submenu allows editing of the key mappings.
Replace patch cable colours: This contains a submenu from which you can select which cables to replace. You can select to either replace a colour, or all colours. A further submenu allows you to select that colour that this first selection will be replaced with. There are two further options: Random (replaces the colours randomly), and Sequenced (replaces the colours for each module in sequence).
Add cable: Adds a cable to Cable Colour Key's front panel which can then be coloured and mapped to a hotkey.
Delete all cables: Deletes all cables from Cable Colour Key's front panel.
